Happy Seeder or Turbo Happy Seeder is a tractor designed by PAU in collaboration with Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). It is a revolutionary innovation for agricultural operations and was developed to deal with the problem of stubble burning.

Happy Seeder machine also prevents air pollution, enhances biodiversity, soil conservation, and saves time which results in sustainable and efficient farming.

What is Happy Seeder?

A Happy Seeder is a no-till planter that is pulled by a tractor that sows (plants) seeds straight in rows without first preparing the seedbed. It has a three-point linkage connection and is driven by the tractor's PTO. It has a straw-managing cutter and a zero-till drill that enable fresh crops to be sown in the leftovers of previous crops.

Happy seeder machine’s straw management rotor is equipped with straight blades of the flail type that are used to chop the stubbles that come into touch with the sowing time. It scatters the crop's leftovers as mulch throughout the land that has been seeded. North India mostly uses it to seed wheat following the paddy harvest.

Benefits of Happy Seeder Machine for Farmers

Happy seeder machine is a game changer in sustainable agriculture and has numerous benefits such as:

  • The Happy Seeder addresses the environmental concern of stubble burning by allowing farmers to sow seeds directly into stubble, reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. This improves air quality and contributes to mitigating climate change.
  • The Happy Seeder machine promotes soil conservation, retaining moisture, preventing erosion, and improving soil health. It reduces ploughing, minimising degradation and nutrient loss, resulting in higher crop yields and sustainable farming practices.
  • It also saves time and labour for farmers by allowing them to sow seeds directly into residue from previous crops, eliminating the need for manual labour and equipment.

Conclusion

The Happy Seeder machine in India empowers farmers by offering an environmentally friendly, efficient solution for stubble burning, promoting soil conservation, saving time and labour, and enhancing crop diversification. When considering the costs of farming practices, it's important to factor in various expenses, including tractor tyre prices, especially when using equipment like Happy Seeder machine.
